HOW TO LOVE THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART

sisterssetfree | July 25, 2010 03:40

Luke 10:27-" You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself."

Have you ever heard the expression "to know him is to love him". To know God our Father is to love Him. How can you love the Lord if you don't know Him very well? What happens when an adopted child grows up wondering who his real parents are? The adopted child will conduct a fervent search looking for clues that will help him find his parents. The adopted child can not rest until he finds them, knowing that when he does he will be able to make more sense of his life, understand himself better and gain a sense of wholeness.

As Christians who have been grafted into the family of God and given the right to become God's children, our search to know God, our real Father, should be just as diligent as an adopted child in search of their birth parents. Our fervent search to know God should begin and continue with serious and consistent scripture study. The Lord God can only be found, in all His glory and divine personality, in the pages of the Bible.

Knowledge of our Father in heaven and adherence to His commandments makes us whole. When we find God we understand ourselves, we understand others and we find purpose for living.

If we are not searching for God with diligence we shall be slow to find Him. If we take getting to know God lightly we shall never have the fullness of the abundant life. Too often we sit in church one day a week and feel that it is enough. It can not be enough. Searching for God with all our heart and strength is much more than a one hour church service or a fifteen minute daily devotional If we want more from God, we must give Him more of ourselves.
